Are we taking AI productivity too far? 🤔

Hey there,

I'm going to go ahead and assume that this one is a "me" problem, but I have to ask: have you ever vibe coded an app from the bathtub?

I have.

In fact, my husband walked in on me furiously typing on my phone amid a cloud of bubbles the other day.

Wild-eyed and grinning, I proudly showed him my creation.

A daily dashboard that would scan all of the different places conversations with my co-founders about our new project were happening - the chaotic group text, my email, our Circle community, Google Meet transcripts, etc. - and summarize it into a "state of the project" report every morning.

It is SO cool.

"I thought you were supposed to be relaxing" he said. And that was the moment I knew I had a problem.

AI has enabled me to get so much done, SO quickly. My mind is actually spinning from all the ways I've taken an idea from 0 to launch in the span of an hour in the last week alone. It's legitimately insane.

But all that productivity costs something. It becomes the expectation.

And for someone like me whose sense of self worth is sometimes tied to how much I can produce and what I can achieve, that's a dangerous path to walk.

My 30 minute bubble baths never used to come with a to-do list. Maybe I'd listen to a podcast or play a meditation. But I never felt I had to produce something.

Let alone a whole ass app. 😂

If you're like me and diving into AI and how it can make your life and work easier, I challenge us all to adopt a new motto: Just because I can, doesn't mean I have to.

Let's focus on what will give us our human hours back in the day. Yes, we should be leveraging these tools to their fullest extent. But not at the expense of losing even more time to the daily grind.

The whole point was to get that time back, remember?

I'm trying to.

P.S. The dashboard is really, really cool and I really really want to show it to you. Hit reply and let me know if you want to see what it looks like and I'll send you a link (or a link to something similar - because, you know, my new project is still top secret) 😉

I was talking with my 11 year old about a fandom she’s super into the other day. And by talking I mean she was projectile vomiting words at me, half of which I didn’t understand. There was pacing. There was maniacal laughing, there was gnashing of teeth. I *live* for these moments when she brings me into the worlds she loves. I still don’t know exactly what she was saying, but I do know the uproar was over a faction of the fandom thinking something was “canon” when it was OBVIOUSLY lore. She...

Us AI educators get a lot of flack for this idea of "hiring AI employees." By the DMs I get, you'd think I'm trying to put everyone out of work. But they have it all wrong. I'm trying to put people to work. Or at least the work that really requires a human brain. And I think AI "employees" are the key to doing just that. For me, that means that sometimes, those "employees" aren't doing what you'd expect. For example: One of the most useful ways I’m using AI employees in my business is to work...

Hey friend, Whew. It’s been a minute. There’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you, and I’ve been a little embarrassed to admit it. A while back, I stepped away from teaching AI. And a big part of the reason was that I let other people’s opinions get to me. I started exploring these tools before ChatGPT came out. Initially, it was very much a “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” situation. After years working in marketing, I could see that this was going to change a lot, and I...
